Bivoltine silkworm rearing is a sensitive, risk- involved activity and to be conducted in congenial environment under specific conditions to ensure qualitative and quantitative production of Bivoltine cocoons which in turn enables production of International Grade Bivoltine Raw silk – the mission of the Department. On the other hand the quality Bivoltine cocoons attracts high prices and assures high returns to the farmers. Due to involvement of sensitivity and risk factors, farmers are not showing much interest to take up Bivoltine rearings. To encourage the farmers to take up Bivoltine rearings and ensure successful harvest of Bivoltine cocoons, the Bivoltine DFLs are being reared in Chawkie Rearing centres under Private and Govt. sectors and exclusively Chawkie worms are being supplied to the farmers in place of BV DFLs (silk worm eggs), which is the critical intervention for Bivoltine Cocooon production.
The scheme is under implementation with a unit cost of unit cost of Rs.2000/- per 100 DFLs with 50% assistance to General farmers and 90% assistance to SC farmers, as detailed in the below table.
To encourage the Tribal farmers for Tasar rearings, assistance of Rs.1080/- per 100 Tasar DFLs with 90% assistance is being provided.
