Assistance for Tree Mulberry Plantations

Introduction

Mulberry is a perennial plant that can sustain upto 10-15 years with proper maintenance and required inputs, even in drought prone areas. It can also be grown as Tree to overcome irrigation crisis due to fast depletion of ground water in drought prone areas. Farmers are facing difficulty for continuation of traditional high density row bush plantation. In order to uphold the traditional interest of farmers to continue Mulberry, “Tree plantation” is being encouraged as an alternative mode in sericulture. Therefore, ‘Assistance for Tree Mulberry plantations’ is being provided for SC & ST farmers with 90% assistance the Central Silk Board approved unit cost of Rs.0.50 lakhs per acre.
