Assistance for Organic farming

Introduction

Establishment of garden with high yielding Mulberry is the primary task of the Sericulture. Once plantation is completed, then the plants need to be properly maintained with regular irrigation, supply of required dosage of fertilizers, essential minerals, growth promoters etc for production of quality leaf suitable for Silkworm rearing. In fact the quality of mulberry leaf fed to the Silkworm larvae contributes 50% to the qualitative and quantitative cocoon production. The leaf quality depends upon the soil nature, irrigation, fertilizer and mineral application. The fertilizer application includes chemical and organic, where usage of chemical NPK fertilizers is profoundly large. However due to the efforts of the Dept. from the past few years chemical fertilizers are slowly being replaced by organic fertilizers.
To encourage the farmers for soil enrichment through organic farming for production of quality mulberry leaf the scheme is proposed.
Organic farming includes application of Farm Yard Manure, Vermicompost, Neem cake, minerals, nitrogen fixing microbes, plant extracts as growth promoters etc. Luxuriant Mulberry plant growth requires supply of NPK and other minerals with the combination of the above in the required doses.
Hence the scheme is proposed with a unit cost of Rs.10,000/- per acre per farmer with 50% assistance to general farmers and 90% assistance to SC & ST farmers, enabling them to choose any items from the following which are purely organic in nature.
a) Vermi compost
b) Neem cake
c) Organic fertilizers
d) Growth promoters of natural plant extracts
e) Nitrogen fixing microbe fertilizers
The above items will be supplied through ‘Sericulture Farmers Federation (SERIFED)’ as per the choice of the farmers with in the unit cost of Rs.10000/- per acre per farmer.
